Doagh Island (Oileán na Dumhcha)

The Doagh Island walk is fantastic for beautiful scenery without having to deal with any steep inclines. Starting off we walk along a stretch of Pollan Bay strand, taking in the views of Tullagh Point, Glashedy Island and Malin Head to the North.
Next we aim for Carrickabraghy Castle which is worth a stop if the group would like a break. The Castle has now been renovated by the locals and well worth the visit. If preferred we can continue on along the coastal road to see Canny’s cottage in the Doagh Famine Village and call in to the visitors center for a cup of tea there.
Walking back there is the option to follow the road back to Pollan Bay car park , but I prefer to retrace steps back along the coast.

Doherty’s Castle, Carrickabraghy was built in 1504 and was occupied by the O’Doherty family until 1610, following the execution of Cahir O’Doherty and the plantation of Ulster it was then granted to Sir Arthur Chichester, who has then leased it to Lieutenant Hoan, the Castle has not been uninhabited since 1665.
